Keith and I worked together at vivid studios, my first agency job during the dot-com era. In April 2000, a few of us from the office decided to attend All Tomorrow's Parties in Cambersands (UK), one week before the festival (back then, I thought it would be my only opportunity to see a small Icelandic band called Sigur Ros). I met Ann during that trip, and the three of us bonded on the train from London to Brighton. When Ann and Keith expressed interest in recording summer, I couldn't be more excited.
TRACKLISTING
01 Airtight (Morning Version)
02 Welcome to the Machine
03 Libra
04 Airtight (Remix)
All songs written by Sappington except "Welcome to the Machine" written by Roger Waters. Additional Production on "Airtight (remix)" by Wes Steed.
PRESS
"Sappington pulls from a number of different sound sources to create an idiosyncratic, somnolent style that walks the line between shoegazing dream pop and ambient electronic music. The feeling in these restrained, smartly orchestrated pieces goes beyond slow, soaring melancholy; there's an added tension, a nebulous paranoia about the unknown and unexpected. [ With ] SUMMER, the duo continues to juxtapose their soft searching voices with melodic acoustics and slightly dissonant electronics." (Epitonic)
"Ann's voice gently, warmly, and almost sadly, croons over the distorted sound fragments and sparse instrumentation that characterized their debut... SUMMER finds Sappington in the midst of a metropolis underworld, surrounded by metal and concrete, tinkering with computers and machines on a sweltering, humid night." (Somewherecold)
